We don’t always start with a blank slate; sometimes all you need is a little facelift to become vibrant again. This Halifax North End townhome kitchen was functional, but lacked character and personality. Since we were already doing a full renovation on the master bathroom ensuite (seen here), it was the perfect time to upgrade this kitchen.
Working with the existing cabinets, we pulled the warm earthy tones down into the new countertops. We replaced the dark and dated laminate with durable, light stone coloured quartz. The quartz allowed us to undermount the sink and create a more modern square edging throughout.
Adding a new backsplash brought plenty of character and visual interest to the space. The mosaic of earth-toned glass tiles mixed with natural stone adds texture, depth and sparkle. Combined with the shiny new quartz counter, much more natural light is reflected into the space.
To finish this facelift, we gave the space a richer earthy taupe/green walls. The darker colour lets the cabinets pop and because of the lighter countertops, isn’t too overbearing.
