KITCHEN CABINET UPDATES, TANTALLON
In Tantallon, Halifax, these clients were looking to update their kitchen with a more contemporary look. They felt that the kitchen was outdated and could really use a facelift. When we first spoke with clients at their home during their design consultation we understood that they were happy with the current layout of the kitchen and were only looking to update the finishes to create a kitchen with more appeal to add value to the home. In addition to the kitchen renovation they were also looking to update their living room, laundry room and bar area, to match the new contemporary kitchen design. With keeping the current layout of the kitchen, we were able to keep the finishing costs within in their budget which allowed the clients to spend more on those high end appliances they had always hoped for. Another advantage with keeping the current layout was that our design team didn’t need to spend as much time working on a design layout. Before the clients knew it, they were meeting at our office to decide on their final finishes for their new kitchen remodel.
After discovering their idea book on houzz, it was decided that they would be going with a more contemporary look. Our Halifax designers selected materials that included beautiful tones of grey and white. To save even more on the renovation; we removed the existing cabinet doors and drawers and took them offsite to have them refinished. The kitchen cabinets were refinished in Benjamin Moore Owl Grey and the kitchen island cabinets were finished in Benjamin Moore Chelsea Grey. The clients had sourced out a very unique countertop for the center island that ended up being a wonderful addition to the kitchen remodel; which included a mixture of concrete and live edged wood. One feature that was added to the design was replacing some of the kitchen cabinets with 2.5’’ open shelving to give the kitchen a more relaxed and welcoming feel. New features were also added to the cabinetry with a multi-use accessory drawer to keep utensils organized, a corner cabinet accessory drawer to easily access pots and pans, a built in spice tray drawer, recycling pull out drawer for the laundry room and contemporary metal pulls to finish the look. Style was brought into the design with new glass tile backsplash in a brick pattern and quartz countertops in the kitchen, laundry room and bar area. Warmth was introduced with all new porcelain tiles in a brick pattern throughout the main rooms and new under mount lighting and fixtures were also added to complete the look. Other updates included new sinks and faucets in the kitchen, laundry room and bar station.
These clients are excited to use their living spaces and we know they will have years of enjoyment with their updated contemporary kitchen renovation.
